DIY blueprint juice cleanse


 
Happy New Year! What are your resolutions? Each year I write mine down and every year I forget or fail at each one. I just have to wake up....I will never be a morning person. Anyway, my top new years resolution is prepare my uterus for conception. No, I am not kidding. My current state? Gosh, I don't even know how I am living really. I feel it completely too! bloated, crampy, sleepy, cranky....but cheese & fries taste so good! life is not fair. My main purpose for this cleanse is to clean out my body...well whatever can come out because I know I have a lot of waffles glued to the walls of my intestines. My love handle would agree. I also want to break my sugar/coffee obsession. Life is not fair and in my happy world vitamins would be in the form of chocolate. 
 
Anyway, enough complaining. To start the New Year, Richard and I decided to do a 3-Day cleanse. I've done about 3 other cleanses before two of them were this brand and the other was Herbalife. Both worked well, but the TOTAL BODY CLEANSE made me feel constipated...TMI. This is Richard's first time doing a cleanse and it was actually his idea.
 
We decided to do a juice cleanse this time around. Yes, that is ONLY juice for however long you want. We chose 3 days. The way we've been eating we probably should do 30 days. I researched a few juice cleanses and blueprint cleanse was the one I wanted to do. Well, it turned out that it was going to cost us way too much to do the renovation cleanse. It is 6 juices a day for 3 days, that's 18 juices x 2 for both of us is 36! We don't have over $400 dollars to spend for 3 days. So I went to work! I thought...well I have a nutribullet.....can't we just do the juices ourselves? Well after much internet digging I found this site. YES! SCORE! all of the recipes!
 
We headed to the grocery store (Sprouts Farmer's Market) and bought all the stuff we needed. We spent $90 on everything. That comes out to $2.50 cents per juice. That is one heck of a deal if you ask me!
 
Now, I don't want Blueprint to get mad at me for doing this myself. So, if you are interested in this cleanse and you have the extra cash to spare, I would buy the juices directly from them. Juicing takes A LOT of time. It took us 6 hours to do 24 juices. Our kitchen was a mess....I got beet juice all over my clothes...it was a challenge we were willing to pay so that we didn't have to buy the juices directly.
 
You will need:
 
3 celery bunches
 
4 bunches of romaine lettuce
 
 36 Fuji apples (recipe says granny but those were more expensive)
 
 8 cucumbers (the long kind)
 
 4 bunches of kale
 
1 bunch of parsley
 
3 bags of spinach
 
2 pineapples
 
1 mint leaves (we bought a whole plant for $2.50)
 
10 large lemons
 
2 pounds of cashews
 
cayenne pepper
 
10 large beets (with the stem intact)
 
1 ginger root
 
agave syrup
 
cinnamon
 
strainer
 
36 water bottles
 
The system has 5 different juices one of them you take 2 times a day. The green one.....I hate you green juice. :)

GREEN JUICE

The first juice of the day is the Green Juice. This is six pounds of leafy wonder packed into this powerful selection of celery, cucumber, green apple, kale, lemon, parsley, romaine and spinach. This is easily replicated like the other juices as well.
For the same 16 ounces, gather organically-grown:
  • 5 Ribs of Celery
  • 1 Cucumber, Halved
  • 2 Large Green Apples of Your Choice *I used Fuji
  • 3 Kale leafs
  • 1 Ounce of Lemon juice
  • 1 Handful of Parsley
  • 3 Romaine leafs
  • 1 Handful of Spinach (Don’t be shy. It doesn’t bite.)
Just blend the ingredients together with a bit of water. This is to aid in loosening everything together, but not to change the consistency. When draining the mixture, use the pouch to catch the fiber, as we are only interested in the juice part. Make sure you press out all the juice. Fill that glass!

P.A.M.

The next juice in the series is P.A.M or Pineapple, Apple and Mint. This is a great combination of flavors: light and just the right amount of sweetness. This is one that is hard not to chug it down all at once.
With the simple list of ingredients, it’s just a matter or getting the right measure correct. I’ve found luck with using about:
  • A Third of 1 Pineapple
  • 2 Large Green Apples of Your Choice
  • A few pinches of Mint, to taste
One thing to consider with mint is it’s a strong flavor, and can easily overpower the other two ingredients, so it’s important to start off with a little bit and then add in more depending on how much you want.

Spicy Lemonade

The Spicy Lemonade might at first seem like at bad flashback for anyone who’s tried to stick with the Master Cleanse diet, which really makes you drink lemonade all-day-long. But with the BluePrint Cleanse, this is everything you love about lemonade with a slight kick. They’ve paired cayenne pepper and agave nicely together for a great drink.
  • 14 ounces of Filtered Water
  • 3-4 juiced medium Lemons
  • A few Dashes of Cayenne Pepper
  • 1 Tablespoon of Agave Nectar
If you don’t have a jar of agave nectar in the cupboard, don’t fret it. You can substitute it with honey. The agave will yield a sweeter batch that the honey just can’t match.

C.A.R.

C.A.R. is the acronym for apple, beet, carrot, ginger and lemon. To get this simply mix:
  • 1 Green Apple of Your Choice
  • 2 Beet, with the greens left on
  • 3 Large Carrots
  • 1 and 1/2 Tablespoon of Ginger
  • A 1/2 ounce of Lemon Juice (to taste)

CASHEW MILK

Oh, nuts!
Crafting this excellent source of fat and protein takes a bit longer than the rest, and requires a bit of planning. You’ll want to soak them in water for about eight hours. ****I did not soak mine and they still came out delish!

Here’s a great method for making your own cashew milk
  • 4-5 ounces of Raw Cashews
  • 16 ounces of Filtered water
  • 1 Tablespoon of Agave Nectar
  • 1 teaspoon of Cinnamon (ground)
  • 1 two-inch piece of Vanilla Bean (or 1 teaspoon of extract)
My favorite juice is the cashew milk. Hands down. The green one is my least favorite, its nasty...I drink it with a straw so it can go by faster. I also enjoy PAM, it feels like I am drinking a mojito.


Here is a recap of my thoughts on DAY 1:

We woke up late...12PM!! we went to bed at 4AM the night before so we were drained. I felt great throughout the day. Everything was going well....peeing every 30 minutes as expected. Then around 10PM I got a massive, pounding, throbbing headache! I went to bed and fell asleep at around 11PM. I dreamed of juicing, really I did....and I woke up twice to pee. My alarm rang at 7AM and I went back to sleep. I could NOT wake up. I was SO SO SO SO tired. They lied to me when they said this cleanse would give me energy...liars. I am also really cold...so cold my fingers are numb as I type this. I guess what is happening is that my body is detoxing and with detoxing comes uncomfortable feelings. I am still not hungry, but if you put chili cheese fries in front of me.....I would definitely eat them with no hesitation. I just had my green juice for day 2 and I can't wait for juice 4 (PAM) and the cashew milk. On my way out this morning I swore I could smell pancakes and syrup. I was licking the air and trying to exhale as much of the scent as I could. Oh the struggle.

I will recap on day 2 tomorrow but so far its 10AM and I want to curl up and take a nap.
